NotchNook Pro vs Atoll: files, presentations and AI
NotchNook Pro is our recommendation if you want a notch workspace on a laptop and on external displays without a physical notch. It combines files, clipboard, presentations and coding-agent interactions in the Pro edition. [1][2]
Atoll is a free, GPL-licensed project whose README highlights media, Live Activities, system metrics and utilities. The same README lists a MacBook with a notch among its requirements. That stated requirement is worth checking when your desk includes a notchless display or Mac. [15]
Use the working tools on the display you choose
In Pro, select which screens show the Nook. A display without a physical camera cutout can still host the workspace. If you move between the laptop alone and a desk monitor, test both arrangements during the trial. [1][2]
Tray stages files near your work, Pockets support transfers, and clipboard history helps recover earlier copied content with search, filters and categories. Use those tools with your own documents to see whether the top-edge workspace fits your arrangement. [2]
Move from preparing the material to presenting it
Pro’s Prompter places a script near the camera and supports voice-following or a chosen scroll pace. Calendar keeps the next event within reach. This combination is useful when the same workday includes preparing files and explaining the result in a meeting or recording. [2]
Follow Claude Code and Codex sessions, answer questions and approve commands from the notch. Check usage limits in AI Usage, arrange the widgets and choose Liquid Glass or solid black for your workspace. [2]
Where the choice differs
Atoll’s public documentation includes CPU, GPU, memory, network and disk information. That is a useful focus for someone whose main interest is watching system activity. A monitor’s shape and the tasks you need are more useful selection criteria than treating every notch utility as the same product. [15]
Get a lifetime Pro license for two Macs at $19, or start with the 48-hour trial without a card. Use its file, presentation and agent tools on the displays you select. Pro requires Apple silicon and macOS 14.6 or later. [1][2]
Download the Pro trial from lo.cafe and repeat a real task on each display you use. Test the transition when you connect the monitor as well as the appearance of the expanded panel.
